Passion Mandala [Sept 2020] get a link to this artwork

aluminum, waterproof inks, latex paint, acrylic paint
[2' x 2']
This was a quick project that turned out more interesting than I had expected. Last year I used a stencil to paint a passion mandala on my deck planks. As expected, that wore away fairly quickly, between the foot traffic and the expansion and contraction of the wood. So this year I decided to put the mandala on a sheet of aluminum and hang it from the fence along the back of my deck. I soaked it in a solution of OxyClean for a couple days, and then heated it up with my propane torch to get a distressed oxidized metal look. (Chemistry is fun. 😁) Then I washed it with some blue, purple, and red inks. And finally I used the stencil and daubed latex and acrylic paints through the stencil to make the mandala.
