I made a big rattle, or, as we adults would call it, a maraca! (The really snooty adults would call it a Shaken Idiophone.) I also made a short video so you can hear it (well mostly -- my camera's microphone isn't as good as a nice separate microphone would be).
It's made of myrtle wood and filled with unpopped popcorn kernels to make the rattley bits. I dyed it with aniline dyes, used my wood-burning pen to further decorate it, and finished it with tung oil.
